Cross
Section Criteria OBJECTIVEThe goal of this lab is to
create cross-sections at every station along your alignment. First, GEOPAK will use the baseline and
topographic model to creating existing ground cross-sections. Then you will download and customize a
criteria input file to define the typical section (shoulders, slope to
existing ground, base material). Finally, you will process the criteria file
to load the roadway elements over the ground cross-sections. STEPSCreate a new lab9.dgn
file based on the class seed file (sur4201seed.dgn). Also place the job1.gpk,
shape.inp & superelevation.dgn (from lab 8) & topo.tin (from lab 5)
file in the same folder. 1. We will
first create the existing ground cross-sections. §
Applications à §
Job # 1 §
Chain: Hit the Select button and select Route Surfaces §
Tin file: Hit the file button and select the topo.tin
file. §
Under Display Settings change the color to 4
(yellow) §
Click on the Add Surface icon to add the TIN
file XS Cells §
Horizontal Scale: 5 §
Vertical Scale: 1 §
Ur Beginning & Ending Stations should
automatically be populated. §
Increment: 100 (A cross section
will be created every 100ft or 1 STA.) §
Left & Right Offset: 200 (Each
cross section will extend 200ft left and right of the baseline.) §
Distance Between Cross Sections (Spacing) §
Horizontal: 1000 §
Vertical: 500 §
Number of Cross Sections: 20 §
Click Draw. GEOPAK will create a series of cross sections of the existing ground along the proposed route. 2. A useful
utility to view the plotted cross sections is the Cross Section Navigator. §
Applications à §
You can use the buttons in the second line to
navigate along your cross sections, §
Notice the solid yellow line represents the
existing ground line at each station.
This is an important element used by future input files. §
Close the navigator window when done. 3. Now that
we have existing ground cross sections we can customize and process the criteria.inp
file. Download criteria.inp from the website to
your working directory and customize it to match your project parameters
(DGN, Job Number, chain and profile names, stationing, levels etc…). 4. Once
your criteria.inp is customized, you can load it into the DGN by processing
it. §
Applications à §
Hit the Files button to select § Change the Log File option from Screen Only to Log file, and name the out put file as criteria.log (The log file will contain a summary of the input file processing and will be used to check for errors.) § Check uncheck the Pause on each section option to make the Apply button active. § Hit Apply § Hit OK for any errors prompted. § Exit §
Use the same navigator window as used earlier to
navigate along your cross sections. When finished, close
MicroStation and backup your files (lab9.dgn, job1.gpk, criteria.inp,
criteria.log) |
